Ronnie Slack and I have been playing guitars together for almost 50 years. Ever since the first day we met after being stationed together aboard the 572 in 1971 as newbie non-quals, we would hide and hang out somewhere and make music. Even though we now live miles apart, we still manage to transfer music files back and forth. Many of our creations never make it this far (published), and others we just can’t seem to remember from the night before when we kinda come to the next day….
In “Drainin’ da Swamp”, Ronnie came up with a guitar riff that sounded somewhat “swampy” when he played it using a ‘banjo style roll’ finger picking technique. As such, I decided to create my bass line riff in a “Dueling Banjo” style format and play off of his acoustic guitar so that we somewhat ‘compliment and compete’ with each other.
For this short piece, Ronnie is playing his Yamaha acoustic, and I’m playing my Ibanez SR500e.
I used GarageBand to mix, and iMovie to create the video.
